Our trip to Steve's 'shop' and float tubing.

The trip myself and 3 friends had to Steve's 'shop' will remain forever in our memories. It was a day of fun and happiness. My dear friend Malcolm, also now sadly gone long before his time, asked Steve if he had any 8/0 tying thread and Steve replied that he had only f------g thick, medium or f-----g thin! On enquiring about some seals fur we were instructed to speak to Brian, I think it was, in the 'dying factory'. The 'dying factory' was a corner of the 'shop' where there was a Baby Belling stove and a few old saucepans. The seals fur was the best you could get though. Steve introduced me to float tubing and we enjoyed just a few occasions together at Ravensthorpe and Toft Newton together with Jim Clements and others. Sadly there were not enough of these outings but the 290 mile round trip was a bit much for me. I still have the Red Devil float tube which is now used mainly for fly fishing for pike on the Norfolk Broads. Steve, you gave me so much although we didn't see all that much of each other but each time we met, which may have been only once a year, it was as if we had been together only the previous week. Cheers and thanks, Peter Sutton.
