I first met Steve via the Internet many years ago in a search for float tubing accessories no longer available in the USA where I live. We communicated via e-mail and he was kind enough to send me inscribed copies of his float tubing books. As time passed, the need for some other gear arose so we once again began e-mailing back & forth. About this point in time, Steve became a Nottingham City Councillor and we often joked about him becoming the Sherriff of Nottingham and finally capturing Robin of Loxley. In our e-mails we chatted and laughed about the difference in our two countries politics, his political challenges, his trips to Greece (since I am Greek and he was a Grecophile, I called him Partonopolis), float tubes and fishing. I only wish I knew he was a fellow harmonica player! Even though our friendship was only via the Internet, I always felt like I had a good mate in England that I would have the pleasure of someday meeting and going fishing with, sadly that never came to be. I was stunned to learn the news of his passing when his son Jonathon answered an e-mail I sent to Steve only a few days ago. I will miss him and the laughs we had together, 5500 km apart.
